About the Glendale YWCA
The YWCA of Glendale, California was founded in 1926 by fifteen prominent Glendale women. Initial programs included employment services and a business girls club. In the early thirties, free meals and emergency relief were offered, including a dormitory for transient women. In 1939, the property at 735 East Lexington was purchased.
Today the YWCA of Glendale operates programs at four main sites. The YWCA Domestic Violence Project provides confidential emergency shelter, crisis intervention counseling, support groups. Parenting classes and transitional housing for women and children. The Project also provides outreach, education, counseling and training services at our Women?s Center and in the community. Our Encore Plus program provides health screenings and education for low income women.
Often ahead of its time, the UYWCA continues to tackle such problems as domestic violence, child care needs, poverty and health care for women. Our programs and services continue to be guided by a common vision: peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people.
